Places of Interest

Our location on the eastern borders of Cumbria gives us good access to many diverse areas of northern England, each with its own particular character. We are within the Yorkshire Dales NP boundary and within a few miles of the Lake District NP making us an ideal centre to visit these two well known National Parks. We also sit midway between two designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty – quieter, lesser known,  but equally picturesque, regions. To the north lies the North Pennines AONB encompassing Weardale, Teesdale, Alston Moor and South Tynedale, with their characterful market towns, high sweeping moorland roads and stunning views in all directions. To the south is the Forest of Bowland AONB a smaller, more secluded area with sleepy villages within the Royal Forest and Trough of Bowland.

Each area offers its own brand of stunning beauty and contains many visitor attractions both large and small. Here are just a few we recommend.
